Tamil Professionals NZ Hosts Inaugural Networking Night
Over 120 Tamil professionals gathered in Auckland for the first Tamil Professionals NZ networking event, connecting engineers, doctors, lawyers, and entrepreneurs from across the country.
More than 120 Tamil professionals converged at the Sky City Convention Centre in Auckland last week for the inaugural Tamil Professionals New Zealand networking event — a milestone moment for the growing Tamil professional community in Aotearoa.
A Community of Achievers
The evening brought together Tamil New Zealanders working across a range of industries including technology, medicine, law, finance, engineering, and education. Many attendees noted it was their first time meeting so many Tamil professionals in a single room.
"I've been in Auckland for eight years and I had no idea there were this many Tamil professionals here," said Dr. Kavitha Subramaniam, a consultant cardiologist based in Epsom. "This is exactly the kind of platform we've needed."
Keynote and Panel
The event featured a keynote address from a Tamil New Zealand entrepreneur who built and sold a successful tech startup in the Auckland market, followed by a panel discussion on navigating careers as migrants in New Zealand.
Panel topics included:
- Professional accreditation for overseas-trained doctors, lawyers, and engineers
- Entrepreneurship in the New Zealand market
- Work culture differences between NZ and South Asia/UK
- Building networks as a migrant professional
